Orlando Alfaro began his duties with Biola Track & Field as the main pole vault coach in the fall of 2017. He also works with the javelin throwers at BU.
"[I came to coach at Biola because this is where God brought me to and planted me to bear His image to the best of my ability," said Alfaro.
He is a well-known coach around the area, also holding coaching jobs with local schools John Muir Academy, Bellflower High School and La Mirada High School. He's got a history as an assistant and head coach in various track & field, cross country and wrestling programs.
He's teams and student-athletes have accomplished all of the following noteable achievements: Bellflower HS T&F 2016 League Champs, Girl's PV CIF Qualifier, 2017 League Champs, Girl's PV School Record, Girl's & Boy's PV CIF Qualifiers, Boy's PV CIF D3 Finals; Bellflower HS Cross Country 2017 Girl's 5k School Record, CIF Qualifiers, CIF D3 Finals Individual. La Mirada HS T&F 2019 League Champs, Boy's PV League Champion, Boy's HJ League Champion, Girl's FS PV League Champion, Boy's PV School Record, Boy's CIF Qualifiers in PV & HJ, Boy's CIF D2 Finals 5th place PV; Biola University 2018 2nd place PacWest Conference Women's PV, NCCAA 3rd place AA Men's Decathlon, 2019 NCCAA Champion Women's PV, NCCAA 2nd place AA Men's Decathlon.
He graduated from CSU Long Beach in 2015 with a bachelor's in kinesiology and was a part of the rowing and triathlon teams with the 49ers. Prior to his time at CSULB, Alfaro was on the wrestling team at Cerritos College (2011-13).
He played high school football, volleyball and wrestled. Alfaro currently attends classes at Biola working toward his single-subject teaching credential and MA in Teaching.
Alfaro is a USATF Level 1 coach and a USAW Bronzer certified coach. He enjoys wrestling, rowing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and recruiting. He resides in Bellflower, Calif.
