The Eagles racked up nearly all of the postseason PacWest men’s cross country awards on Thursday.

December 08, 2022

IRVINE, Calif. --- After winning the men's and women's PacWest Cross Country Championships last month, Biola was in line for a strong showing in the postseason awards. With the announcement on Thursday, the Eagles did just that. The BU men grabbed at least a share of all four individual awards and claimed six All-PacWest honors.

Head coach Sean Henning started it off with his third PacWest Coach of the Year honor. The lead for both men's and women's teams shared the award with Sean Smith of APU as co-Coach of the Year.

Biola's men's team nabbed its third PacWest title under Henning in 2022. BU snuck into first place by one point and six seconds ahead of the next team. At regionals the Biola team took sixth place and was led by Benjamin White, who earned an individual qualification for nationals.

White was the star of the show for the men's team on his way to a pair of PacWest postseason awards. He was named PacWest Runner of the Year and PacWest Newcomer of the Year on Thursday, as voted on by the coaches in the conference. With his first place finish at the conference championships, White earned a First Team All-PacWest honor as well.

The Whittier College transfer impressed in his first season at Biola, leading the team in every race. White not only led the BU squad; he also paced the conference winning the PacWest Individual Championship in November. In the year, White won three races as an individual. The season culminated in a fourth place finish at regionals for the graduate, sending him to nationals. At the highest level, White placed 73rd, which set a new program record.

The PacWest Freshman of the Year award was given to Ryan Todd. The redshirt freshman stood out in his first year on the course. Todd was consistently a top three runner for Biola and helped the Eagles to the PacWest Championship.

Todd raced to seventh place at the PacWest Championships and a First Team All-PacWest award. The San Diego, California native notched a top-10 placement twice and posted a 29th place performance at the NCAA DII West Regionals. He offered his best time of the season at the PacWest Championships with a mark of 24:45.2 in the 8k race.

In addition to White and Todd, the Eagles placed four more runners on the All-PacWest list. Jerry Baltzer headed the remainder of Eagles with a third place finish at the championships for a First Team All-PacWest nod. The recognition was the second of his career.

Ryan Sorensen also grabbed his second all-conference nod, reaching the All-PacWest Second Team. Brady DeHaven and Aidan Tomasini followed with Third Team All-PacWest recognitions. The group of All-PacWest runners were instrumental in the PacWest Championship for the squad.

Stay tuned on Friday for the PacWest's announcement of the women's cross country postseason awards.
