Eagles Make Strides At PLNU

Biola Track & Field continues to improve as it gears up for conference and outdoor nationals.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- For the first and only time in the 2017 season the Biola Track & Field team headed out to Point Loma for a meet. The Eagles competed at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Collegiate Scoring Meet for the second straight year and had a pretty solid meet.

"The meet went pretty good today," said Head Coach Sean Henning. "I think we are continuing to make strides in the right direction with better performances to go. We need to continue working on competing well and taking advantage of every opportunity we have in competition."

The women's 1,500m was a high point for the day. Lyndee Dawson (4:34.40) and Stephanie Croy (4:46.22) both ran new personal-best times, which is impressive at this point in the season. Dawson was second overall, while Croy placed 11th to scoop up the final team point in that event. Dawson's time also hit the NAIA 'A' standard.

It was a strong day for the junior from Medford, Oregon as Croy also set a new personal-best in the 800m. She completed her run in 2:21.29 to finish 10th overall.

"Stephanie did a great job racing, not worrying about her time, and competing to win each race she was in," said Henning.

Other top finishes on the women's side include Christina Clark in the triple jump and Paige LaBare in the 100m and 200m. Clark set a new season-best by hitting 10.73m. LaBare finished second in the 100m (:12.39) and was also the runner-up in the 200m (:25.80).

Ambernicole Hollinger once again made an impact in her field events. She bettered her school record in the hammer throw, clearing 42.04m. She finished third in that event and was top-3 in discus and shot put as well.

"On the men's side, we had some good things happen," said Henning. "Just like on the women's side, we need to keep working on taking advantage of opportunities to compete and stepping up to that challenge. We have a lot more ability on this team and will keep working on drawing it out of them."

Dylan Fredenburg was one of the finest performers of the day. The big man excelled in the discus and also had a solid performance in the javelin. He cleared 38.36m in the discus and then turned around to place in the top-10 in the javelin with a toss of 47.31m.

Some personal-bests and season-bests were also sprinkled throughout the men's results. Ryan Thompson set a new best time in the 1,500m. He placed seventh overall with a 3:59.15 to pick up five points for the Eagles.

Christian Yaotani competed his fastest 100m dash in his collegiate career today. He ran an :11.27 to finish in the top half of the field.

Brandon Berz had a bounce-back week in the 1,500m. He ran 13 seconds faster than he did last week and was 21st out of 48 runners in the field with his 4:09.11.

The women's team ultimately placed fourth of eight teams with 99 points. The men's team was seventh with 36 points.

"It will be good to have two weeks before our next meet. We need to continue to get fit and prepare ourselves for the conference meet in a month and a half," said Henning.

That next meet is the San Francisco State distance carnival on March 31.
