FRESNO, Calif. --- After leading his team to a second-straight record-breaking season Biola Men's Tennis head coach
Brent Worthington turned his focus to the future of the program and began to build his 2017 roster.
The first new addition to announce is a graduating senior from Clovis West High School, Jacob Vander Beek.
Â
"We are very glad Jacob has decided to join the tennis team," said Worthington. "He is a wonderful student-athlete with the skills and character Biola is looking for. He will bring great depth to our lineup especially on the doubles side of things."
Â
Double is constantly an area where Worthington is looking for improvement from his team. His team was 29-43 in doubles in 2015 and then improved to 33-33 in 2016, and with the addition for Vander Beek he hopes for even more improvement.
Â
During his time at Clovis West Vander Beek led his team to a CIF Central Division I Championship and posted a strong second-place finish in doubles.
Â
He spent three years on varsity with the Eagles and worked his game to a point where he earned all-league first team honors. He proved he was a stellar student as well in earning scholar-athlete honors.
Â
"I chose Biola because I wanted to go to a private Christian college and I fell in love with the campus and people there instantly," said Vander Beek.
Â
He will enter Biola in the fall of 2016 and plans to study kinesiology with hopes of a career as a physical therapist.Â
