Lawsen Adds Depth To Distance Program

Biola Track & Field and Cross Country adds another strong distance runner in Taylor Lawsen.

LIVERMORE, Calif. --- Biola Track & Field has added another strong distance runner as Taylor Lawsen of Granada High School commited to joining Head Coach Sean Henning's program in the fall.

Lawsen spent four seasons on varsity with the Matadors and was the team captain of two of the track teams and one of the cross country teams she was on.

"I knew Taylor would fit in perfectly when she came to visit Biola back in the fall. She got an opportunity to spend time with the team and run with them, and I felt like she was already a part of our program," said Henning. "She is as a young woman fits in perfectly with the culture of Biola. She is a strong Christian with great leadership ability and a competitive spirit. She will be a big part of the success of our program going forward."

Lawsen was a standout performer throughout her high school carer. She earned all league honors each year from 2012 through 2015 and was all-section in 2015. She also had a chance to compete at the North Coast Sectionals Meet of Champions in 2013, 14 and 15.

She's a strong leader as she led her team to a 2012 league championship and sectional championships in 2012 and 2015. Under her leadership the Matadors placed fifth at CIF DII State competition this last year.

"I chose Biola because I wanted to get a great education and grow deeper in my faith," said Lawsen. "And the ice cream is pretty awesome too…"

In addition to her God-given athletic ability Lawsen is a fantastic student. She's got a record of a 4.0 or higher grade point average in each of her four years on high school and earned four scholar-athlete honors.

She begins studies at Biola in the fall of 2016 and plans to major in English. She hopes to go on to a career as a high school teacher and coach after graduating.
