Biola strands six runners on the bases in a 6-1 loss to No. 1 seed LSU Alexandria.

Box Score ALEXANDRIA, La. --- For the second time in as many games in this tournament Biola scored the first run. Unfortunately, that was all the Eagles could get in the first semifinal of the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round at LSU Alexandria, losing 1-6.

Biola, the No. 2 seed, seemed poised to spoil the day of LSUA, the No. 1 seed, when Brooke Madrid came around to score with two outs in the top of the first inning. She reached on a walk and then was driven in by a Bria Madria single.

Biola started Reba DePriest in the circle and she clearly had the Generals number through the first round of the batting order. The senior struck out two in each of the first two frames and struck out Brooke Thomas, LSUA's leadoff hitter, for a second time to start the third inning, still pitching with a 1-0 lead.

Both of the Generals' next two batters reached base via base knocks and all of a sudden it was two on and just one out. A sacrifice fly knotted the game at one before LSUA's designated player ripped a double to clear the bases and make it a 2-1 advantage for the Generals.

A walk and an error loaded the bases with two outs in that inning, but DePriest worked her way out of it with her sixth strikeout of the game.

Both teams went down quickly in the fourth inning, and then Biola had a chance to tie it up in the top of the fifth when Brooke Madrid doubled to center field. Kasey Hormel fought through a marathon at-bat and ultimately grounded out to first base to push Madrid just one base away from scoring the game-tying run.

Ultimately, the Eagles left her stranded, one of six runners left on base in this one, and went back to defense in the fifth still trailing by one.

The fifth is when the dangerous Generals offense everyone has been talking about decided to show up. LSUA got four runs off two hits, a homerun, a handful of walks and a hit-by-pitch and now Biola had a still hill to climb and just six offensive outs to climb it.

Going down 1-2-3 in the sixth didn't help their case, but Kimmy Triolo pitched a scoreless bottom of the sixth to send the game to the seventh with the score still 6-1.

Amanda Lillicrop led off the inning with a bunt single, stole a base and then advanced to third on an error. She was retired at home plate on an attempted sacrifice bunt and then a strikeout and lineout ended the game.

The loss forces Biola to have to play again on Tuesday night. The Eagles will face the winner of an elimination game between Kansas Wesleyan and Belhaven at 5:00 p.m/3:00 p.m. PT.
