Joshua Mathis fired a seven-over-par 223, placing seventh overall to help lead Biola to a ninth-place finish among 12 teams at the Cal State San Marcos Spring Invitational at the Shadowridge Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Eagles shot 853 over three rounds of the invite, just eight strokes out of seventh place in a bunched up middle of the pack. Point Loma Nazarene cruised the team title by 13 strokes.
Mathis paced Biola, getting better each round of the tournament. He opened with a 76 and 75 on the first day, then carded an even-par 72 in the final round on Tuesday. That earned him a tie for seventh place overall in the field of 72.
Kyle Schrader placed 28th overall for the Eagles with a 17-over 233, recording round of 77, 79 and 77.
Greg Bodine was close behind in 40th with a 24-over 240 (79-79-82).
Biola heads back to the golf course on Feb. 9 for the Lampkin Grip Intercollegiate hosted by the University of La Verne at the Sierra La Verne golf club in La Verne, CA.
