GENEVA, Ohio ---
Natasha Miller repeated as the NAIA High Jump Champion, winning her sixth indoor individual title and
Kelsey Gasner broke records in six of the eight events she ran in to lead Biola to a program-best fourth place finish at the 2011 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the GaREAT Sports Complex in Geneva, Ohio.
Biola finished with 40 points overall, giving the Eagles a fourth-place trophy for the first time in school history. It was Biola's third-straight top 10 finish and second-straight year finishing in the top five.
Natasha Miller repeated as the NAIA Champion in the high jump, clearing 1.72m (5'-7.75") in her 10th event of the meet. She becomes just the sixth NAIA athlete with six or more individual titles and was name the meet's Most Outstanding Performer. Only two NAIA athletes have ever won more titles and one went on to the Olympics.
She also finished fourth in the 60m hurdles, recording the second-fastest time in her career of 866 seconds.
Kelsey Gasner capped an incredible final meet by breaking another pair of school records, both of which she had set in the prelims the day before. In her sixth race of the meet, Gasner opened the day by placing fifth in the mile with a new school record time of 5:01.50.
Later in the afternoon, she established a new school record time with a fourth-place finish in the 1,000, crossing in 2:54.54.
She closed out the meet as the third leg in the distance medley relay. The relay team of
Katie Thede,
Natasha Miller, Gasner and
Nychele Fischetti once again earned All-America honors by placing fifth overall in a time of 12:02.10. It was the relay's fourth-straight trip to the NAIA Championships and its third-straight year earning All-America honors.
All said and done, Gasner competed in eight races and ran 9,200 meters, just shy of 5.75 miles, and set six new school records.
Senior
Sarah Brooks recorded a fast time in the 5,000m finals, placing ninth with a time of 17:53.07. It was the second-best time she has ever run the event.
Rounding out the competitors on the final day was senior
Carissa Bowman, placed 11th in the 3,000 at 10:33.05.
Oklahoma Baptist University won the team title with 75 points followed by Simon Fraser University (B.C.) with 58 and Azusa Pacific University with 56.
Biola had 16 All-American performances on the weekend by seven different competitors. They were:
