LA VERNE, Calif. --- Biola's women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss on the road at the University of La Verne on Friday afternoon in a non-league contest.
The loss was the first of the season for the Eagles who fall to 1-1. The Leopards improve to 2-0 overall..
Biola picked up one win in the opening doubles competitions, that coming at No. 3 where
Danielle Calbeck and
Alisha Hansen won 8-4.
But in the singles, Biola could only score victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles--both coming in three sets. At No.1 singles,
Kia Choi was able to outlast her opponent, coming back to win after dropping the first set 6-3. She tied the match with a 6-2 second-set win, then won the tiebreaker set by a 6-3 score.
At No. 3 singles,
Mariah Pace also came back from a first-set loss. She lost 6-1 in the opening set, but rebounded with a 6-2 win in the second. She then took a tight third set 7-6 to win the match.
Biola plays its first home match of the season on Saturday, hosting cross-town rival Whittier College in a non-conference match at 12:00 p.m. at the Biola Tennis Center.
