Aaron Fenlason Repeats as NAIA All-American

Cody Shelton receives honorable mention

Aaron Fenlason
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola senior goalkeeper Aaron Fenlason repeated as an NAIA All-America selection, being named to the third-team while fellow senior Cody Shelton received honorable mention as the 2011 NAIA Men's Soccer All-America teams were announced on Tuesday by the national office.

Fenlason, a 6-1 senior from Rancho Bernardo, capped a spectacular career with his second-straight appearance on the All-America team, finishing the season with a 13-5-3 record including eight shutouts and a 0.99 goals against average. He was twice named the GSAC Defensive Player of the Week and earned NAIA Defensive Player of the Week honors during the final week of the regular season.

Fenlason was incredible down the stretch for the Eagles, who went undefeated in their last seven games including winning its first conference tournament title in program history. Over the final stretch, Fenlason allowed just five goals--one on a penalty kick--against 86 shots. He recorded back-to-back shutouts in the first two rounds of the GSAC Tournament, defeating Vanguard University and regular-season champion Fresno Pacific to advance to the finals.

He ends his career with a 36-22-9 overall record, posting a 0.96 goals against average and posting 27 shutouts including a school-record seven-straight to start the 2009 season.

Fenlason was one of just two players on the three teams from the GSAC along with NAIA Player of the Year Paul Islas from Fresno Pacific University, who was on the first-team.

Shelton, a defender Joshua Tree, is the anchor of the Biola defense. He helped the Eagles allow just 22 goals against in 21 games this season. Shelton has also been extremely versatile, moving to the forward position when Biola needed late goals during the middle of the season. He scored three of his four goals over a two game stretch, tallying two goals in the final 10 minutes of a game at Westmont, than scoring another late goal in Biola's overtime win at Point Loma Nazarene.

Biola wrapped up another solid campaing with a 13-5-3 overall record, advancing to the NAIA Quarterfinals for just the fourth time in program history, but the second time in the last three years. The Eagles played to a tie against No. 15 Hannibal-LaGrange in the Opening Round of the tournament, but failed to advance after falling 4-2 during a penalty-kick shootout.
