Biola Cross Country Teams Headed to NAIA Championships

Men making first trip in 12 years; Women making fifth-straight appearance

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola's men's and women's cross country teams cap off their seasons on Saturday at the 56th Annual NAIA Men's and 32nd Annual Women's Cross Country National Championships at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash. The men are making their first trip since 1999 while the women are making their fifth-straight trip.

The men's 8K championship race will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women's 5K gun sounding at 11:45 a.m. 

This season has been one for the record books for the men's team. The Eagles, who were ranked No. 14 in the final NAIA rankings, matched a program-best with a second-place finish at the GSAC Championships on Nov. 5 in Fresno. In that race, Biola ran its fastest team-time ever and saw a program-best three All-GSAC selections. Earning the honors were junior Collin Christensen, senior Brian Aukshunas and sophomore Danny Ledesma. Christiensen placed sixth overall at the conference meet with Aukshunas taking ninth and Ledesma finishing in 12th.

This will be the Biola men's team's first trip to the NAIA Tournament since 1999 when the Eagles finished 22nd overall. Biola's first trip came in 1997 when the Eagles placed 25th and was followed by a trip in 1998 which resulted in a 16th place finish.

For the women, Biola is makings its fifth-straight trip as a team, finishing as the National Runners-Up the last two years. The Eagles also placed second at the GSAC championships last week. Biola has been ranked in the NAIA Top 10 in nearly ever poll over the last three years.

The Eagles had a solid showing at the conference race, also having three runners recognized as all-conference.  Senior Nychele Fischetti placed fourth overall while fellow senior Carissa Bowman took home 10th place overall and freshman Jessica Marquardt placed 11th.
