Biola Cross Country Team at NAIAs

Women Place 12th, Men 26th at NAIA Championships

The men's and women's Cross Country Teams at NAIA Championships
VANCOUVER, Wash. --- Biola's women's team took home 12th place while the men--in the team's first NAIA appearance since 1999--finished 26th as the teams competed at the 2011 NAIA Cross Country National Championships on Saturday afternoon at Fort Vancouver Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash.

The women's team scored 391 points in the race to take 12th in the 32 team field while the men tallied 617 and finished in 26th also out of 32 teams in the field.

The Eagles were competing as a team at the NAIA Championships for the first time in 12 years and had a solid showing, capping an impressive season. 

Senior Collin Christensen led the men's team with a 29th place finish out of 312 runners in the race to earn All-American honors. Christensen finished with an impressive time of 25:02. Freshman Kevin Horchler finished 136th with a time of 26:34 as did sophomore Danny Ledesma, who finished just behind in 137th.

Rounding out the scoring five for Biola were junior Spencer Lyle with a time of 26:47 in 149th place with senior Brian Aukshunas finishing 166th in 26:59. Freshman Andrew Daedler (175th - 27:04) and junior Joseph Harabedian (207th - 28:42) finished up Biola's seven.

For the women, senior Nychele Fischetti was Biola's top finisher, placing 46th overall with a time of 19:04 in her final collegiate race. Freshman Jessica Marguardt placed 60th overall with a time of 19:19 with senior Carissa Bowman taking 69th in a time of 19:25. Senior Jane Kerner took 89th in the race with a time of 19:40 with Carrie Soholt taking home 127th in 19:57.

Rounding out the top seven for the Eagles was sophomore Chelsea Janzen in 149th in a time of 20:16 with junior Rachel Stump taking home 161st in 20:27.

The women's finish was its fifth-straight Top 12 finish, a solid run for a program which floundered near the bottom of the conference prior to the arrival of Head Coach Jonathan Zimmerman

Cal State San Marcos took home its third-straight women's title with Oklahoma Christian University winning on the men's side.
