Joshua Mathis was the only player to shoot under par, easily winning the Lamkin Grip Invitational hosted by the University of La Verne on Monday, firing a one-under-par 69 for the victory.
Overall, Biola placed second in the five-team, one-round tournament held at the Sierra La Verne Country Club. The Eagles carded a team score of 301, five strokes back of The Master's College, which won the team title. The University of La Verne placed third at 306 followed by Occidental College (312) and Whittier College (316).
For Mathis, it was his first collegiate victory and the first by a Biola golfer in the program's four-year history. The feat was even more impressive as Monday featured the hottest weather in Southern California history.

John Graham tied for fourth overall with a score of 72 while senior
Tim Goodfriend fired a 76 to place 12th. Rounding out the Biola contingent was freshman
