LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Former Biola center and NAIA All-American
Rocky Hampton has been signed by the Dusseldorf Giants of the German Basketball Bundesliga--the highest level league of club basketball in Germany. He headed out to Europe to report to the team on Sunday.
Hampton finished his Biola career as the school-leader in blocks (270) and fourth all-time in points (1,623) and rebounds (1,019). As a senior, he averaged 14.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.6 blocks in just under 30 minutes per game. Hampton's block total was the fourth-highest in the NAIA and, as a result, earned NAIA First-Team All-America honors. He also helped the Eagles reach the NAIA Quarterfinals for the first time in five years.
The Dusseldorf Giants are in the midst of a complete overhaul of the team which finished last in the league in 2009 with a record of 8-26. The Giants have hired an all-new staff and will change their name to the "Gloria Giants" for the 2010-11 season.
"It's exciting," said Hampton. "This will be completely different for me since I have never really traveled or been to Europe. But I can't wait to get over there and get started."
The Giants will tour Turkey for three weeks in the preseason before starting the year in October.
