PRIMM, Nev. --- Biola freshman
Joshua Mathis placed sixth overall among a tough field of teams at the 2010 California Baptist University Spring Break Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at the Primm Valley Golf Course in Primm, Nevada.
The Eagles took ninth overall out of 12 teams in the field, firing a three-round total of 936 (296-307-333).
Mathis had his second top-10 finish of the season with a four-over-par 220. The freshman from Colorado Springs led after carding a first-round 67, the lowest score in the three years of Biola men's golf. He wrapped up the competition with a 76 and 77 in the final two rounds to finish just five shots back of the leaders.
Jordan Swanson was Biola's second-best finisher, recording a 19-over 235. Swanson got off to strong start on Monday with rounds of 72 and 74, but struggled on Tuesday with an 89.
The tournament was the final one of the regular season schedule for the Eagles, who will now attempt to qualify for their first-ever trip to the NAIA National Championships April 19-20 in San Luis Obispo.
