VANCOUVER, Wash. --- Seniors
Kelsey Gasner and
Katie Thede earned All-American honors to lead the Biola University women's cross country team repeated as the NAIA National Runners-Up at the 2010 NAIA National Cross Country Championships at Fort Vancouver Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash., on Saturday.
The Eagles finished just behind Cal State San Marcos for the second-straight season, recording a total of 127 points while the Cougars scored 88. Black Hills State (S.D.) came out of no where to finish third with 151 points, followed by Malone University (Ohio) in fourth with 164. Simon Fraser University (B.C.) finished fifth with 177 points and Azusa Pacific University recorded a sixth-place finish with 209 points.
Biola's senior trio, which helped turn the program around over the last four years, capped their impressive careers with a strong race, finishing as the Eagles' top three runners.
Gasner and Thede each earned All-American honors with Gasner placing ninth overall in 18:14 and Thede finishing 25th in 18:26. Fellow senior,
Sarah Brooks finished just out of All-American range, placing 34th in 18:40.
Rounding out the scoring five for the Eagles were freshman
Chelsea Janzen, who was 57th overall in 18:57, and junior
Nychele Fischetti, who placed 69th in 19:06. Junior
Carissa Bowman finished as the Eagles' sixth runner in 19:11, good enough for 81st overall with freshman
Alexandra Sciarra finishing 168th in 19:50.
In addition, senior
Ryan Richert, running in his final race after an amazing comeback from injury, placed 58th overall with a time of 26:09.
