Rocky Hampton have been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Women's and Men's Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Jan. 18-24, respectively, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Conicelli, a junior from Redlands, shot over 73 percent from the field in two games last week, going 19-of-26 and averaging 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds as Biola picked up a pair of GSAC victories. She scored 22 points and added 14 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season on Tuesday, leading the Eagles to a 67-62 home victory over No. 23 The Master's College.
On Saturday, Conicelli scored a game-high 23 points and added nine rebounds, five assists and two steals as Biola picked up a big road victory, defeating California Baptist 86-79.
The junior is among the leads in the GSAC in numerous categories, including leading the conference and ranking ninth in the NAIA in rebounds, averaging 9.6 per game. She also ranks fourth in the GSAC in scoring (15.7 ppg), sixth in field goal percentage (53.5%) and eighth in blocked shots (0.82 bpg).
Hampton, a senior from Lake Arrowhead, scored a total of 37 points and had 23 rebounds, five blocks and a pair of steals as No. 4-ranked Biola won both of its GSAC games last week against teams receiving votes in the NAIA national ratings. He missed just five shots all week, shooting 76.2 percent from the field (16-for-21).
Tuesday, Hampton recorded his eighth double-double of the year, scoring 18 points and adding 14 rebounds in the Eagles' 71-57 victory at home over The Master's College. On Saturday, he shot 9-of-11 from the field, scoring 19 points and adding nine rebounds as Biola trounced California Baptist, 73-47.
Hampton also ranks among the best players in the conference from a statistical point of view. He also leads the GSAC in rebounding at 9.1 boards per game, is second in blocks (2.58 per game), third in field goal percentage (56.9%) and ranks ninth in scoring (14.1 ppg).
The Biola women's team, which moved up one spot to No. 21 in the latest NAIA national ratings released on Monday, is 11-6 on the season and has won eight of its last nine games to move into a tie for third in the conference at 7-2. The men's squad remained No. 4 in the NAIA ratings with its 18-1 overall record and sit alone in second in the GSAC with an 8-1 conference mark.
Both teams close out the first half of GSAC play on Tuesday (Jan. 26), hosting Hope International University. The women's game tips-off at 5:30 p.m. with the men's game following at 7:30 p.m.
