Marlon King Named GSAC Player of the Week

Senior guard's career-high 25 led Biola to win over arch-rival Azusa Pacific

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola senior guard Marlon King has been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 4-10 as announced by the conference office on Monday.

King, a San Diego native, scored a total of 36 points in two games last week, including a career-high 25 points as No. 5 Biola won a pair of GSAC games. For the week, he was 13-of-21 (61.9 percent) from the field including 3-of-6 from three-point range.

King scored 25 points, added six steals, five assists and four rebounds to lead the Eagles past arch-rival Azusa Pacific 85-69 on Tuesday. He then closed out the week with 11 points, three assists, two steals and two rebounds as Biola knocked off San Diego Christian College.

King ranks among the top players in the GSAC and the NAIA in numerous categories. He currently is tops in the nation with 3.4 steals per game and leads the GSAC and ranks 13th in the NAIA in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.58-1. King is second in the GSAC and 13th in the NAIA in assists (5.3/game), sixth in the GSAC in field-goal percentage (.566) and fourth in minutes played (32.93/game).

Biola is off to a perfect 15-0 start and is tied for first in the conference with a 5-0 record. The Eagles return to action on Tuesday (Jan. 12), traveling to Santa Barbara to face long-time rival Westmont College in a GSAC game at 7:30 p.m.
