DAY ONE RESULTS
SAN DIEGO --- Four school records fell by the wayside and Biola added won a pair of individual conference titles during first-day action at the 2009 GSAC Championships on Friday afternoon at Point Loma Nazarene.
Senior Erin Hobson and sophomore Natasha Miller each accomplished both feats, winning individual GSAC titles and breaking school records. Hobson had an impressive showing in the pole vault, clearing 11-feet, 7-inches to win the GSAC title and break a seven-year record in the event. The height also earned her an automatic berth in the NAIA Outdoor Championships in June.
Miller set a pair of school records on Friday. The first came as she won the individual title in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, 5.75-inches (5.63m). It broke the old school record of 5.61m, which she set earlier in the year. Miller also sprinted to a school record in the prelims of the 100 hurdles, shattering her old record by nearly one-half second. Her time of 14.06 was the best off the day.
Sophomore Erika Perez wasted no time breaking the school record in the steeplechase, finishing fourth overall with a time of 11:22.8. She bettered teammate Nychelle Fischetti's old record of 11:26.45 which she set just a few weeks ago at the UC Irvine Invitational.
Highlighting competition on the men's side was Gabe Aeschliman, who reached the finals of both the 200 and the 400 with personal best times of 22.72 and 50.01, respectively.
The GSAC Championships wrap up on Saturday.
