LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The midwinter rain storm striking Southern California has caused the postponement of Biola's baseball and softball games scheduled for Saturday and also affected the Biola tennis team's opening tournament.
The softball team will have to wait until next week to open the 2009 season as the scheduled doubleheader against No. 21 Cal State San Marcos has been postponed due to heavy rains. The Eagles, who opened the season ranked No. 20 in the NAIA Preseason poll, will now open the season with a single game against the University of La Verne on Tuesday (Feb. 10) at 1:00 p.m.
The baseball team's GSAC opener at San Diego Christian will also have to be made up after heavy rains swamped the Hawk's home field. The Eagles return home on Monday (Feb. 9) for a single game against Cal Poly Pomona at Eagles Diamond. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
Both of the doubleheaders will be rescheduled, though a date has yet to be announced.
Also affected by the weather was Biola's women's tennis season-opening tournament at Cal State LA. Two matches were able to be played before the rest of the day was called off due to the rain. The tournament is expected to resume on Saturday and wrap up on Sunday.
