BOX SCORE
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Despite jumping out to a quick lead with an early goal, No. 4 Azusa Pacific took back the lead with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart en route to a 3-1 win over Biola in a GSAC match on Saturday afternoon on Al Barbour Field.
The Eagles fell to 5-3-1 on the season with the loss and to 1-3-0 in conference play. The Cougars improve to 9-2-0 and remain on top of the GSAC with a perfect 5-0-0 record.
Biola's early goal was the result of strong pressure from the Eagles' front line. As a pair of Biola players put the Azusa Pacific goalkeeper under pressure, she ended up missing on an attempt to clear the ball from danger. Senior
Ashley Moseley then swooped in and kicked the ball into the empty net just over three minutes into the match.
The Eagles then moved into defensive mode and kept the Cougars at bay for the next 20 minutes. However, Azusa Pacific was able to break through and tie the score in dramatic fashion. Theresa Broad, the 2008 GSAC player of the year and an NAIA All-American, blasted a shot from about 30 yards out and finding the back of the net for her ninth goal of the season.
It took just 1:43 seconds for the Cougars to get the lead and for Broad to collect her 10th goal of the year. Natalie Sun dribbled the ball down to the goal line and sent it into the box where Broad made a leaping touch past the goalkeeper just in front of the net.
Azusa Pacific kept the pressure on and managed to net an insurance goal in the 86th minute as Sun scored on a scramble in the box.
The Eagles had a tough time breaking through the Cougars's defense, managing just a pair of shots in the match. However, Biola netminder
Erin Frushon did her best to keep Biola in the match, recording five saves while facing 15 shots.
Biola returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 13), hosting Hope International University in a GSAC match at 7:00 p.m. on Al Barbour Field.
