MONTEREY, Calif. --- The Master's College shot a seven-over 290 thanks to Zach DeKruyf's one-under 70 to take the first round lead at the Biola University Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Monterey.
The Mustangs held off California Baptist for the top spot after the first day of the inaguaral event as the Lancers were 15-over-par 298. Holy Names University sat in third place with a team score of 309 while host Biola is in fourth at 313. The Eagles were two shots better than William Jessup University with Cal Baptist's "B" team finsihing with a 322.
DeKruyf had the lone round under par on the day with just one hole over par. His teammate Kevin Anderson is second in the individual rankings, firing an even-par 71. California Baptist's Ivan Fuganti recorded the third-best round with a 72 for the CBU "B" team.
Freshman
John Graham fired a four-over 75 to lead the Eagles. Sophomore
Greg Bodine and senior
Mike Belleggie, who was playing in his first collegiate tournament, each carded a five-over 76. Freshmen
Zach Hyer and
Sam Howell rounded out the Biola squad, each finishing with an 86.
The two-day, two-round tournament concludes on Tuesday (Nov. 18) with tee-times beginning at 8:00 a.m.
