Tony Montalvo's great corner kicks proved to be just what Biola needed in the win as he twice placed balls in the perfect position for goals in the first half. The first came in the 25th minute as
Joao Toscan made a great play on the ball to head home the first goal. Just five minutes later, the Eagles struck again in nearly the same fashion as
Carlos Ballesteros tallied a goal off the corner to make it a 2-0 Biola lead.
Biola held a slight edge in the first half in shots at 4-3, and weathered a pair of good chances by Menlo as freshman goalkeeper J.T. Addington recorded saves to hold the 2-0 lead through the half.
The Oaks would get on the board early in the second half, netting a goal just seven minutes in to make it a one-goal game. Biola had to again fight off a strong surge by Menlo in a strong attempt to tie the match. However, the Eagles and Addington kept the Oaks off the board and added a big insurance goal in the 74th minute.
Daniel Chew, who tallied a pair of goals in the Eagles' win over Simpson on Friday, got into the assist column, turning the corner and playing a great cross into the box where freshman John Hanscome scored for his third tally of the season.
Biola would hold on for the final 16 minutes to escape with the two-goal victory. Addington picked up the win--his first collegiate victory, making five saves including three in the second half.
The Eagles hope to ride the momentum of the successful road trip into its GSAC opener on Wednesday as Biola travels to face The Master's College at 4:00 p.m. The Eagles then do battle on Saturday at Concordia in a rematch of the 2011 GSAC Tournament Championship match final which Biola won in dramatic fashion, overcoming a 2-0 halftime deficit and winning 3-2 in overtime.
