LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola sophomore forward
Jessica Austin has been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week this week after scoring three goals and adding an assist on another to lead the Eagles to a pair of GSAC wins.
Austin, who hails from Altadena, had a hand in four of Biola's six goals scored last week. Despite playing just 45 minutes on Wednesday, the sophomore scored twice and assisted on the Eagles' third goal as Biola defeated Hope International University 3-0. Both of her goals were impressive breakaways where she split the defense, beat the keeper and scored easily.
Saturday, Austin came into the game midway through the first half and scored under 30 seconds later. It was the first of Biola's three goals in a 3-1 victory over San Diego Christian College. With that goal, Austin had either scored or assisted on the previous five Biola goals dating back to September 20 where she scored the final goal in a 3-0 win over Marymount College.
Austin's six goals on the season are the second-most scored by a Biola player since 2006, just one behind Ashley Moseley who tallied seven in the 2009 season. She now has nine in her two seasons with the Eagles.
Biola returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Fresno Pacific University in a GSAC match at 7:00 p.m. on Al Barbour Field.
