MEET RESULTS
EVANSVILLE, Ill. --- For the second time this year, Biola's Natasha Miller proved to be the best all-around female athlete in the NAIA, winning the Heptathlon crown with a dominating 330-point victory on Friday morning at the 2009 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.
Miller, who also cruised to victory in the indoor pentathlon back in March, entered the day leading by over 400 points with just three events contested in the final day. She wasted no time extending her lead with a strong showing in the long jump. Miller's jump of 18-feet, 3.75-inches beat the next closest competitor by over a foot to extend her lead.
After finishing 13th in the javelin, Miller still held about a 250-point lead heading into the final event: the 800m run. Miller went out on top, coming from behind with a strong final 100m to win the event and take the heptathlon title. She crossed in 2:20.45 to record 817 points in the event to give her a total of 5,204 points which establishes a new school record.
Miller returned later in the for the 100m hurdle finals. The sophomore took third overall in the event with a speedy 14.28, just .07 seconds behind the winner of the event.
She would round out the day with the triple jump, setting a new school record with a leap of 12.06m (39-feet, 7-inches).
The Biola women's 4x800m team would be the final event of the day for the Eagles. The quartet of sophomore Katie Thede, freshman Nychele Fischetti, freshman Carissa Bowman and sophomore Kelsey Gasner finished eighth overall with a time of 9:29.32.
The Eagles earned 21 points through the first two days of competition and is in seventh place overall. Point Loma Nazarene is sixth with 21.5 points and Azusa Pacific sits in a fourth-place tie with 28 points.
Biola closes out the championships on Saturday with a busy day. Biola's lone male representative, Ryan Richert will compete in the marathon early in the morning. Richert, who was hit by a car while riding his bike over one year ago, has made incredible strides in his recovery just to make it back to the NAIA Championships.
Miller will compete in the high jump on Saturday to round out her second NAIA championships. Miller is seeded first in the event and blew away the competition with an impressive leap of 5-10.75 feet in the high jump of the heptathlon.
To wrap things up, Fishetti and Erika Perez will run in the steeplechase finals on Saturday afternoon. Both finished seventh in their respective qualifying heats on Thursday.
