COMPLETE MEET RESULTS
SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Biola saw more six school records fall by the wayside as both teams recorded their best finishes in recent memory on Saturday at the 2009 GSAC Track and Field Championships at Point Loma Nazarene.
The women's team posted an impressive 103.5 points overall to finish fifth in the conference, the first time a Biola team has recorded 100 or more points at the GSAC Championship.
Sophomore Natasha Miller established three new school records and was part of a relay which set another during the championships. After recording two on Friday, she added three more on Saturday including an impressive performance in the triple jump. Miller lead throughout the entire competition until a competitor from Concordia was able to outjump her on her final jump. Miller, who had run the 400, 400 hurdles and the 200 within the last hour, then came out and pulled out a leap of 39-feet, 5.5-inches to win the event.
She also took top honors in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, 5.75-inches and later followed up with a 1:04.11 in the 400 meter hurdles. Both marks broke school records.
Sophomore Erika Perez continued her success in the steeplechase, finishing fourth overall with a time of 11:22.80. Her time, which would have won the event at last year's GSAC Championships, shattered the school record.
Biola wrapped up the day with an impressive showing in the 4x100 relay. The relay team of Erin Hobson, Janette Hill, Miller and Brooke Forsi took fourth overall in the event with a time of 49.85. That was just under the previous Biola best of 50.02 set way back in 1992.
Two other athletes earned personal bests on the day. Connie Andersen recorded 3,661 points in the heptathlon, which was good enough for fourth place while Sarah Brooks took 12th in the 5,000m with a time of 19:04.
The Biola men's team took seventh overall with 36 points--the highest point total since 2004--with half of the points coming from the team's freshmen.
Freshman Gabe Aeschliman recorded a personal best in the 400 finals, crossing in eighth place with a time of 49.81. He also recorded a PR in the prelims of the 200m on Friday with a time of 22.72 and took seventh overall on Saturday.
Friday evening, junior Ryan Richert PR'd in the 10,000m with a fast time of 32:05.14, good for third place in the event. Evan Thibodeau took eighth overall in the event in 34:07.
Freshman, Matt Arendse recorded a season-best time of 59.36 in the 400m hurdle prelims on Friday and took eighth overall with a 59.88 in Saturday's finals.
One other freshman recorded a personal best time and that was David Ricksecker, who raced to seventh place in the 1500m in a time of 4:00.36.
Kyle McNulty and Carter Williams finished sixth and seventh in the Steeplechase on Friday evening. The duo then combined with freshmen Gabe Aeschliman and Tyler Sharp to finish sixth in the 4x400m relay on Saturday with a 3:28.32.
In the 4x100m relay, a team comprised of four freshmen--Jonathan Kirchner, Gabe Aeschliman, Tyler Sharp, and Matt Arendse crossed the line in fifth place with a time of 44.17
In the triple jump, Jameson Henry recorded a personal best by nearly two feet with a leap of 12.85m to take home fifth place in the event.
Freshman Ryan Hansen, who joined the team in mid-March, finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 48.87m and took seventh in the decathlon with a score of 5,192 points.
