LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola senior pitcher
Brian Albert has been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 13-19 as announced by the conference on Monday.
Albert, from Whittier, allowed just one run and struck out eight in four appearances over 10 innings pitched, recording a pair of wins and adding his first save of the year.
He pitched four innings of relief at San Diego Christian, allowing four hits while striking out three to earn the win. He picked up a save, pitching the final three innings of the game in Biola's 6-1 win at Westmont. He also picked up a win against Concordia on Saturday, pitching a pair of innings in Biola's 5-4 victory.
“I feel good because I'm back to the normal stuff that I've always had,” Albert said of the honor. “I'm back to myself. It's built my confidence a lot.”
After a move to the bullpen, Albert has regained his form a year ago in which he finished the season by winning eight straight decisions. Although he had came out of the bullpen twice earlier in the season, this transition proved to help the right hander on the path to sustaining the success he's had.
“It gave me some time to perfect my mechanics,” Albert said. “It allowed me to repeat them throughout the week and eliminate the little kinks”
This is the second conference pitcher of the week honor Albert has received in his Biola career. The other came in 2008 where he earned NAIA National Pitcher of the Week honors as well.
