Aaron Fenlason and forward
Kennedy Chongo have been named the final GSAC Men's Soccer Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively, for the 2009 season, the conference office announced on Monday.
Fenlason, a sophomore from Rancho Bernardo, earned the honor for the fourth time this season. He helped Biola reach the GSAC Finals for the first time in the program's history with a tie and a shutout victory last week.
On Wednesday, Fenlason made five saves while facing 12 shots as the Eagles and Vanguard played to a 1-1 draw in the GSAC Quarterfinals. In the shootout, he saved the first shot as Biola advanced 4-2 on PKs. Saturday, Fenlason again came up big, facing 14 shots and making one save as the Eagles knocked off No. 9 Azusa Pacific 1-0 for the second time this season.
An All-GSAC selection, Fenlason has posted an impressive 13-3-2 overall record which includes a school-record 11 shutouts. He also has 0.64 goals against average--the second-lowest in the conference--and has recorded 47 saves in 18 matches.
Chongo, a junior from Lusaka, Zambia, recorded a goal and added an assist to help the Eagles into the tournament finals this week. The junior scored the lone goal in the Eagles' 1-1 draw with Vanguard on Wednesday and assisted on the match-winning goal against Azusa Pacific on Saturday. The goal against APU came with just 33 seconds left in the scoreless semifinal.
Chongo, who was also an All-GSAC pick, now has eight goals and four assists on the season.
Biola, which is 13-3-2 overall this season, travels to The Master's College on Saturday (Nov. 14) to face the Mustangs in the GSAC Tournament Finals beginning at 2:00 p.m.
