MEET RESULTS
REDLANDS, Calif. --- Biola junior
April Smith took top honors on the women's side at the 2009 University of Redlands Swimming Pentathlon on Saturday at the Thompson Aquatics Center in Redlands.
The unique events features swimmers from numerous schools around the area swimming the 100 of each stroke followed by a 100 individual medley at the end. The total time of all five swims is added together and the swimmer with the lowest total time is crowned the Pentathlon champion.
Smith had a dominating performance as her total time of 5:17.12 was over four seconds faster than the next closest competitor. Smith won the 100 IM (1:02.30), placed second in the 100 free (55.40), second in the breaststroke (1:09.04), 13th in the 100 fly (1:04.01) and 15th in the 100 back. The competition featured over 125 swimmers.
Sophomore
Brittney Rosania finished 13th overall with a total time of 5:33.55. Junior
Emily Mosbacher took 18th in 5:36.16 and freshman
Bailey Johnson took 24th in 5:39.32.
On the men's side, senior
Brian Shepard was the Eagles' top finisher, placing fifth overall with a total time of 4:45.21. Freshman
Jacob Neller placed just behind Shepard in sixth overall with a time of 4:46.18. Biola also had three other swimmers in the top 15 with sophomore
Nathan Roe in 10th (4:50.00), freshman
Chris Stutzman in 12th (4:55.26) and senior
Zach Perkins in 13th (4:55.45).
Biola returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 5, traveling to Chapman University for a double-dual meet against Chapman and Whittier College.
