Fenlason Repeats at NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week

Sophomore earns honor for second time this season

Aaron Fenlason
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola goalkeeper Aaron Fenlason has been named the NAIA Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 2-8 as announced by the national body on Tuesday. It is the second time he has earned the honor this season.

Fenlason, a 6-1 sophomore goalkeeper from Rancho Bernardo, was integral in a pair of Biola wins during the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament. In the 1-1 double-overtime draw with Vanguard (Calif.), Fenlason notched five saves, while facing 12 overall shots on goal. In the shootout, which was won 4-2 by Biola, Fenlason saved the first shot and helped propel the Eagles into the semifinals.

Fenlason again came through in the Saturday match with No. 9 Azusa Pacific (Calif.). Facing 14 total shots, Fenlason saved one on goal and helped knock off the Cougars 1-0 for the second time this year. The shutout marked his school-record 11th of the season. Fenlason lowers his goals against average to 0.64, which ranks 13th in the country and is the second-lowest in the conference.

Fenlason was eligible for NAIA National honors after earning the GSAC Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday. It was the fourth time this season Fenlason garnered the conference honor.

Earlier this season, Fenlason became the first Biola men's soccer player to earn NAIA Player of the Week honors since 1995 when goalkeeper Bryan Price earned the honor.

An All-GSAC selection, Fenlason has posted an impressive 13-3-2 overall record which includes a school-record 11 shutouts. He also has 0.64 goals against average--the second-lowest in the conference--and has recorded 47 saves in 18 matches.

Biola is 13-3-2 overall and is preparing for its first-ever appearance in the GSAC Tournament Finals which take place on Saturday (Nov. 14) at 2:00 p.m. The Eagles, the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament, will square off against No. 1 The Master's College for the conference crown and an automatic berth into the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
