Perez Qualifies for Nationals, Ball wins Steeple

Erika Perez became Biola's seventh NAIA qualifier

IRVINE, Calif. — Freshman Erika Perez took advantage of Biola's final track meet before the NAIA Championships, running a strong PR time in the steeplechase at the Steve Shott Invitational in Irvine on Saturday to become Biola's seventh qualifier for the outdoor national meet.

Perez ran an impressive time of 11:42.53 to better her previous mark by nine seconds and wrap up a spot at the NAIA Championships.

Senior Brian Ball won his third steeplechase race of the season and his second in as many weeks with a seasonal best time 9:10.43. He is currently ranked in the top eight in the event on the NAIA level.

The NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships are May 22-24 at Ralph Korte Stadium in
Edwardsville, Ill. Biola will send seven athletes to the championships:

Women

Natasha Miller: 100 Hurdles, 400 Hurdles, Triple Jump, High Jump

Kristin Schmidt: 1500, 5000, 10000

Erika Perez: 3k Steeplechase

Danielle Simpson: Marathon

Men

Brian Ball: 3k Steeplechase

Kyle McNulty: 3k Steeplechase

Jared Bird: Marathon
