ST LOUIS — Senior Brian Ball finished third in the 3,000m Steeplechase while freshman Natasha Miller placed second in the high jump to wrap up the third day of competition at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships Saturday at Ralph Korte Stadium in Evansville, Ill.
Ball, who missed walking in Biola's graduation ceremonies to compete on Saturday, ran a career-best time in the steeplechase to earn NAIA All-American honors for the fifth time in the last two years. Ball crossed the finish line in 9:06.05 to wrap up third place, finishing just ahead of the fourth-place finisher and just 10 seconds behind the event winner.
Miller, wrapped up her first NAIA Outdoor Championship with an impressive showing in the high jump. Miller cleared 1.70m for the first time this season to finish second overall to also earn All-American honors. It was the second time this season she earned All-America honors this season after placing fourth in the indoor pentathlon in March.
Kristin Schmidt wrapped up another stellar season on Saturday with an 11th-place finish in the 5,000m run. Schimdt, who was running in her third distance event in as many days, crossed the line in 18:10.74.
Biola also had a pair of participants in the Marathon on Saturday. On the men's side, junior Jared Bird placed 42nd out of 61 runners in his first-ever marathon, crossing the line in 2:58:52.0. Senior Danielle Simpson also ran in her first marathon and placed 25th overall in a time of 3:37.20.0.
