Miller Places 20th in Triple Jump; Schmidt Cruises to 5,000 Final

Natasha Miller took 20th in the triple jump

ST LOUIS — Biola freshman Natasha Miller placed 20th in the triple jump as one of two Eagles to participate in Day Two of the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Friday at Ralph Korte Stadium in Evansville, Ill.

Miller, who earned All-American honors during the NAIA Indoor Championships in March, got her feet wet at the Outdoor meet with a leap of 11.23m. Miller next competes on Saturday in the high jump, an event in which she is seeded in the top eight.

Sophomore Kristin Schmidt was Biola's only other competitor on Friday, qualifying for the finals of the 5,000 which will take place Saturday night. Schmidt, who placed ninth in the 10,000 on Thursday, cruised to the fifth-fastest qualifying time with a 17:59.33. She needed to conserve energy while still earn a spot in the finals–a difficult task which she performed quite well.

Schmidt will participate in the 5,000 finals on Saturday night. She will not be alone as four other Eagles will compete. Most notably will be senior Brian Ball, who misses walking in graduation ceremonies to race in the 3k steeplechase finals.

Also missing graduation will be senior Danielle Simpson, who takes part in the marathon along with sophomore Jared Bird. Miller will also return to action in the high jump.
