FRESNO, Calif. — The Biola Track and Field team had a strong showing on Saturday, taking part in a Tri-Meet against GSAC foes Fresno Pacific University and Westmont College in Fresno.
This was the only meet of the season which featured the dual meet scoring, meaning Head Coach Jonathan Zimmerman put at least two competitors in each event in an effort to score as many points as possible. Overall the women finished second in the team scoring and the men finished third.
"This is the type of track meet that brings both coaches and athletes alike back to the grass roots of sportsmanship, competition, and the pure pleasure there is in doing events that both are in your area of strength and also in ones that stretch your boundaries," said Zimmerman.
Biola won seven events on the day with Natasha Miller and Kristin Schmidt taking top honors in two events. Miller won the high jump with a leap of 5-3 and also ran first in the 100m hurdles, finishing in 15:09. Schmidt took the 1500m and 3000m runs in times o 4:56.6 and 10:53.2, respectively.
Other winners included Connie Andersen in the 400m (64.82), Brian Ball in the men's 1500 (4:03.79) and the quartet of Andersen, Miller, Erika Perez, and Kim Arroues winning the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 4:16.79.
On the men's side TJ Ellis had probably the busiest day as he competed in ten events, with Miller on the women's side competing in eight.
The Eagles are next in action at the 50th running of the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut on Thursday and Friday, April 17 and 18. The GSAC Championships follow on April 25-26 at Azusa Pacific.
