HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — Senior Danielle Simpson earned a provisional qualfiying time on Sunday morning, running a 1:33.27 at the Surf City Half-Marathon in Huntington Beach as she qualfied for Nationals the first time in her four-year Biola career.
Simpson, who was a team captain on the women's cross country team this season, just missed an automatic qualifying time by .27 seconds, but is expected to still run at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in May.
"It was cold, wet and windy out there and the last part of the race was uphill and into the wind," said Head Coach Jonathan Zimmerman. "It is a real tribute to her work ethic and dedication that she qualified."
She joins Ryan Richert and Jared Bird as other marathon qualifiers for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships which run May 22-24 in Edwardsville, Ill.
